Cottage

A cottage window is similar to a double hung window, and should work well in just about any room of your home. These windows work well in small homes, such as lake or mountain homes or small beach cottages. They have a distinct look that can give your home a charming appeal. There are several options with a cottage window, the most popular seems to be a larger bottom sash that compliments the unique architecture of your home. Cottage windows can also come in single-hung and double-hung styles. Generally, a cottage window's size and shape are made to order and include Georgian-style bars to add a hand-crafted touch. Double-glazed windows are made of the highest quality, and the bars can be placed in just about any size area.

Why Should I Consider a Cottage Window?

Made in the style of traditional Georgian windows, cottage windows are a practical and attractive way to give your home a charming, traditional look. The upkeep of the windows is very easy. The windows are hinged so that they swing up or down for easy access for cleaning on either side.

What Should I Look For in a Cottage Window?

Things to consider include the type of glass, materials for the frame, color, style, energy efficiency, longevity, quality and window design. Cottage windows offer many options in regards to finish, glaze and glass thickness. You may choose from tinted glass, energy star rated glass, UV glass, obscure glass, and safeglass. The U-value in UV glass refers to the quantity of heat that is transferred through the material. The lower the U-value, the better the insulating properties. The wooden styles of cottage windows are available as either Traditional True Divided Light (TDL) or Simulated Divided Light (SDL). The windows also come in a plain traditional style with no lights. Modern window frames are typically made of PVC, resulting in being virtually maintenance-free.
